Hybrid Data Collection Methods
Because Internet penetration among consumer and business populations is currently limited, ADFR has developed a hybrid survey technique which utilizes the power of online data collection in combination with traditional methods and enables probability sampling which can be projected to larger universes.

We have had particular success with a multi-media technique which incorporates these three methodologies:
A mailed self-administered questionnaire
Providing a URL address which enables online response
Telephone reminder follow-ups
This technique has the advantage of reaching samples without regard to Internet penetration, using the Internet to reach those respondents comfortable with online response and increasing response rates with a multi-media approach and telephone follow-ups. True probability sampling can still be achieved with the convenience of easy online access.

This hybrid technique provides response rates which typically match those from phone surveys, is less intrusive to respondents, provides high quality data, allows for use of complex concept descriptions and visuals and typically costs less than phone surveys. It is particularly of value for larger samples requiring segmentation.
